- Determination of spatial characteristics of soil moisture in rural areas by means of ERS1/2 and JERS SAR data and hydrologic modelling

Context and objectives

The research project T3/02/35 focuses on 3 main aspects. First of all a method is proposed to retrieve the soil moisture content through active radar measurements. Therefore images of the satellites ERS-1 and ERS-2 were used. Second, a hydrologic model is tested and calibrated for different scales (field and catchment scale). Finally, the results of remote sensing and hydrologic modelling are compared.

Expected scientific results

Several physical parameters were simulated and soil moisture maps for different points in time were generated.
