GIS concepts overview. The purpose of this document is to introduce you to some of the principles behind a GIS and to discuss a few of their capabilities. Three relatively simple examples of GIS operations will be presented, with detailed instructions on how to perform them with the MapInfo Version 3.0 thematic mapping program.
